2011 Officer Elections

The Eastern NY Local Section will be holding Officer and Councilor Elections for 2011.

This year's Eastern NY Section Nominees are as follows; all are running unopposed.

Secretary - Harry Garber
Brief Biography:
Harry Garber earned a BS degree in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University in 1970, an MS degree in Analytical Chemistry from MIT in 1975, and an MS degree in Forensic Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979. Since 1980 he has been employed as a Toxicologist at the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center. In the Eastern New York Section ACS (member since 1980), he has served the three-year Chair Elect - Chair - Past Chair cycle, sandwiched between two three-year stints as Arrangements Committee Chair. He has organized symposia in Forensic Chemistry during three Northeast Regional Meetings (NERMs) of the ACS (June 1989, June 1997, and June 2003) hosted by our Local Section. He has been Secretary since 1990.

Treasurer - Harmon Tunison
Brief Biography:

  • Undergraduate degree from Shippensburg University of PA
  • Masters degree from University of Pittsburgh
  • Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in Analytical and Inorganic chemistry
  • I work for Knolls Atomic Power lab in the Ceramics Development Laboratory
  • I have been the treasurer for the section since the late 90's
  • I live in Scotia with my wife, Jan, and sons Alex and Ben
  • I've been a member of the ACS since 1981 and of this section since 1988 (or so)


Alternate Councilor - Anthony Noce
Brief Biography:
Anthony (Tony) Noce is currently a Principal Consultant with ARCADIS, an international company providing consultancy, design, engineering and management services in the fields of infrastructure, water, environment and buildings. Mr. Noce has more than 23 years of experience in environmental chemistry and consulting, with a focus on global environment health and safety compliance and due diligence and integration services.

Mr. Noce currently leads and coordinates the EHS compliance contracts for several large multinational corporations. In this role, he is responsible for coordinating a team of scientists and engineers providing global environment, health and safety compliance, due diligence, global product stewardship, and sustainability management services in accordance with our Master Services Agreements. As such, he is responsible for delivering “best talent” and ensuring the consistent delivery of value-added services on time and on budget.

He has been an active member of the Society since 1994. He currently serves as a member and Secretary of the Joint Board-Council Committee on Environmental Improvement and has served in a variety of local, regional and national positions within the Society, including Chair of NERM ’97 and NERM ’03, Program Chair for the Environmental Division, and as a member of CEI (1999 to 2006 and 2011 to present).

Mr. Noce holds two Bachelor’s degrees from the State University of New York.
