Help A Teacher in Your Community

Who inspired you to be a scientist?

Inspire the next generation by partnering with a middle or high school science teacher this school year. Assist a teacher by answering questions from students, planning instructional demonstrations, or assisting students as they conduct a lab. ACS will donate $500 to the school where you volunteer so that you and your partner teacher can purchase science supplies to support your projects. Find out more at

Request for Nominations for the 2011

Gustavus John Esselen Award for Chemistry in the Public Interest

This award recognizes a chemist for outstanding achievement for scientific and technical
work that contributes to public well-being.  The award consists of a $5000 prize and a medal of recognition.  The presentation takes place at an award ceremony in April at Harvard University, followed by a formal address by the awardee.

Terry Frazer, a Middle School Science Teacher at Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy of the Capital District, was a recipient of The Merck Index donated by our local section.  Chair Eric Davenport received a thank you letter from Rabbi Rami Strosberg, Head of School at Bet Shraga.
